A Synopsis of MPTC's Third Annual Lawyers for Transgender Rights

Lawyers for Transgender Rights is organized by the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MPTC) and was co-sponsored by the Mass LGBTQ Bar Association.

April 20, 2012 Boston - On April 12, 2012 “Lawyers for Transgender Rights” held their third annual event to raise money to support the work of the Massachusetts Transgender Political Coalition (MTPC). The Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar Association was a co-sponsor of this event, and the two co-chairs were our own Committee on Transgender Inclusion (CTI) members Bri Lacy and Catherine Deneke. The event was held at The Estate in Boston. and the keynote speaker was Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo. Representative DeLeo (D-Winthrop), representing 19th Suffolk District since 1991, has been a consistent advocate for, and defender of, transgender rights, from his 2009 co-sponsorship to his hard work in accomplishing passage of the Transgender Equal Right Bill in 2011. MTPC presented Rep. DeLeo with the 2012 Transgender Ally award. Over 200 people were in attendance. The event featured live music by CTI member Cathy Reuben and her band, Urban Myth, a cocktail reception and a silent auction. Auction items included four tickets to a Red Sox-Yankees game and tickets to this summer’s Beach Boys anniversary concert, both generously donated by event co-sponsor Foley Hoag. “The event was even larger this year and held in a gorgeous venue,” reported Bri Lacy. “There was an opportunity to donate and have the donation matched. It was exciting to watch $10,00.00 being raised in about ten minutes. A huge thank you goes out to everyone who participated.”
