BBA Volunteer Day with Freedom for All

Saturday, June 30, 2018

9:00 AM to 3:00 PM

Exact Location TBD

RSVP  SVP

Join the BBA for a volunteer opportunity with Freedom for All Massachusetts (FFAM) to stand up for transgender rights in the Commonwealth!

The BBA is a proud member of FFAM, a coalition of 1,000+ business, community, and civic groups and leaders working to protect the public accommodations protections for transgender people signed into law by Governor Baker in 2016. These important protections are under threat from a ballot initiative this fall; a recent poll shows that only a slim majority (52%) of Massachusetts voters currently support keeping the protections in place. FFAM is working to educate voters about the existing law and the importance of upholding equal rights for all members of our community.

The BBA’s Civil Rights & Civil Liberties Section and Diversity & Inclusion Section will sponsor a canvassing date with FFAM on Saturday, June 30. The day will start with a thorough training of all volunteers, who will then go out in groups to knock on doors and engage voters in a dialogue about the public accommodations law and the issues involved. Feel free to bring a friend; if your friend is not a BBA member, please contact Hannah Poor (hpoor@bostonbar.org) to sign them up. We hope you can join us!

The location of the canvass is still TBD, but it will be in the Greater Boston area, and the meeting point will likely be accessible by public transit. A rough agenda of the day is as follows:

9AM - Volunteers meet, have coffee, receive training, and pick up canvassing materials

10AM - Volunteers go out in pairs or groups to knock on doors.

2:30PM - Volunteers regroup for a short debrief

3:00PM - Canvass ends
